CiSMA
ACTIVECircular Steel for Mass Market Applications — EU Horizon Europe, 42 months (Nov 2024 – April 2028). Developing AI-driven tools to optimize the use of recycled steel in mass manufacturing. The project brings together 13 partners across Europe to advance data-driven forming quality control.
Work Packages
Laboratory-scale investigations of scrap-based steelmaking processes and their impact on material properties.
Characterisation and optimisation of scrap as a sustainable raw material for circular steel production.
Development and validation of novel rapid testing methodologies for incoming material quality inspection at production sites.
ML models trained on FE simulation data. ANN-based quality prediction, anomaly detection, and process optimisation demonstrators.
Pilot-scale steelmaking trials to validate laboratory findings and optimise recycled steel production processes.
Industrial validation of recycled steel use cases across automotive manufacturing at Volvo Cars.
Dissemination activities, stakeholder engagement, and communication of project results to industry and the public.
Overall project coordination, quality assurance, risk management, and administrative governance.
Applications
ANN-based forming quality prediction. Predicts MaxFailure Index and MaxSpringback from material properties (r-value, RM, RP, CF).
